Owned by Ohtsu Tire, Falken Tire is an international tire brand that is manufactured in Japan. Falken Tire manufactured its first tire in 1983 and started international exportation that year. To distinguish Falken from other brands, they offer premium tires with mileage warranties for all tire sizes and models. The warranty covers tires starting at 14-inch all the way to 26-inch, with types from touring performance to all-season tires. Falken Tire is world renown for having their very own international Drift Team and for contributions to the American Le Mans Series Racing. Falken manufactures the WildPeak A/T tire as the alternative for the very popular Sport Utility Vehicles and Light Trucks tire market. This tire is a great all-purpose tire that has a 50,000-mile limited Tread-wear warranty and a 30-day ride guarantee. The WildPeak features a square shoulder profile that contributes maximum traction with a unique look. This tire also has a jointless nylon band for comfort, a Hard Bead Apex for sidewall stability, and aggressive sidewall treatments that computer design the tread pattern.
The Sincera Touring SN211 is a Premium Touring tire that comes with an unbelievable 80,000-mile tread-life warranty. Four Optimized Circumferential Grooves maximize hydroplane resistance by channeling water rapidly from the contact patch of the tire in wet conditions. To make the tire look good on coupes, sedans, and wagons, stylish serrated sidewalls, and a square shoulder profile were incorporated. Variable sipes depth design reduces tread clock movement and promote a long, and even wear. Tread-wear Indicators give the owner the ability to easily monitor the wear of the tire, promoting consistent rotation and maintenance.
For a truly unique tire, Falken produced the Azen15 ST-115, which is "Luxury and High Performance Tire at all four corners". This tire is only available at select retailers. The tread compound is Propriety Based, to reduce noise throughout the tire's longevity. Wide Circumferential grooves and a directional tread design give then tire the ability to hug the road, even in the worst weather conditions making this a great all-weather tire. To improve durability against curbs and other harmful foreign objects, maximum durability sidewall and shoulder block reinforcements were added to the design.
Way back in April 1921, a group of tire dealers met at the old Automobile Club of America on West 54th Street and founded our association pledged, "To do business on the square." J.R. Benedict of the Hewitt Rubber Company, a tire manufacturer, called the initial meeting. Jerome T. Shaw of Tires magazine assisted in arranging the first meeting. In 1934, the association held its largest meetings and took an outstanding part in problems as they related to the independent tire dealer. It was at this time the name was changed to Greater New York Tire & Battery Association. In June 1937, the association entered into a contract with Charles F. Root under which Mr. Root assumed the general management of the organization.
For many years, no apparent need for a local organization seemed to exist and the only function held was the annual dinner dance. In 1969, Bert Schwarz asked Fred Dresdale, a past president of the National Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association and a member of our local organization, to take the presidency. Under Fred's guidance, along with the help of men like Al Hansel, Dan Chiswick, Harry Jaffess, Steve German, Frank L. Cohen and Herb King, the organization was revitalized. The name was changed again to the Greater New York Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association. In 1989, the Officers and Board of Directors enacted a new set of by-laws to encompass the entire state of New York. Hence, the new name of the organization, the New York Tire Dealers Association.
