A subdivision of Bridgestone one of the largest tire producers in the world, Fuzion was born for performance vehicles. Fuzion has several types of tires for summer and all season use, that give the ability to maximize performance and control at the same time. The Fuzion tire is ideal for drivers who demand style, comfort, and performance every time they drive.
The high performance tire for all seasons is the HRi. The HRi was developed for sport cars, sedans, and coupes. The H-speed tire combines performance and style while style providing year round traction against all elements including light snow. The HRi is capable of being an all-season tire, because the HRi features a high performance all-season tread compound which is molded into a siped, independent block, mildly asymmetric tread design that blends traction on dry, wet, and light snow-covered roads. To give the tire strength, twin steel belts are used that is reinforced with spirally wrapped nylon ply added to the inside of the tire.
Fuzion has entered into the Light Truck market with the XTi, an on-and-off-road all-terrain tire. This tire blends performance with aggressive styling to create a merger of year round traction and exquisite looks. The Fuzion brand uses many new technologies to improve the advantages of the XTi series. A Computer Optimized Component System is used to create the XTi tire, so that the design and manufacturing can work in perfect harmony. Incorporated in the tire is an O-Bead design, which is a round structure that minimizes overlapping joints in the Bead area for a smooth ride. Long Link Carbon was injected into the XTi so that microscopic tread tearing would be impossible. Independent Tread Blocks and a Continuous Center Rib combine to offer off-road traction with enhanced highway stability. Circumferential grooves lateral notches and sipes create a great all weather tire that handles excellent in poor weather.
A strictly summer performance tire offered from Fuzion is the ZRi. This tire is perfect for drivers with sport compacts and sport cars. The Z-speed rated tire was designed to give sharp responsive handling with traction on wet and dry road surfaces. A Long Link Carbon (an advanced form of carbon black) and Silica-reinforced tread compound are molded together into an aggressive directional tread design to give better traction on dry surfaces, with the capability to disperse water faster to improve wet grip, preventing the car from hydroplaning. The internal design of the ZRi, has a twin steel belt system that gives the tire better handling. Reinforced with spiral wound nylon, the twin steel belts provide high-speed longevity, while minimizing curb weight and maximizing ride comfort. Rim Guard is featured on the ZRi tire, which gives the tire rubber ridges on its lower sidewalls, operating as bumpers to prevent the rims from damage on potholes and other road obstacles. The ZRi is a quality product that performs superior to any other in the summer.
Way back in April 1921, a group of tire dealers met at the old Automobile Club of America on West 54th Street and founded our association pledged, "To do business on the square." J.R. Benedict of the Hewitt Rubber Company, a tire manufacturer, called the initial meeting. Jerome T. Shaw of Tires magazine assisted in arranging the first meeting. In 1934, the association held its largest meetings and took an outstanding part in problems as they related to the independent tire dealer. It was at this time the name was changed to Greater New York Tire & Battery Association. In June 1937, the association entered into a contract with Charles F. Root under which Mr. Root assumed the general management of the organization.
For many years, no apparent need for a local organization seemed to exist and the only function held was the annual dinner dance. In 1969, Bert Schwarz asked Fred Dresdale, a past president of the National Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association and a member of our local organization, to take the presidency. Under Fred's guidance, along with the help of men like Al Hansel, Dan Chiswick, Harry Jaffess, Steve German, Frank L. Cohen and Herb King, the organization was revitalized. The name was changed again to the Greater New York Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association. In 1989, the Officers and Board of Directors enacted a new set of by-laws to encompass the entire state of New York. Hence, the new name of the organization, the New York Tire Dealers Association.
